Ever since I got a job (insert vomit face here) (then insert grateful face) We have had very few days off as a family, well beside those obvious ones like Christmas and what not. But today was the first day of that we had in which we didn't have plans or holidays to celebrate so we decided to hop on the metro and head downtown to the Natural History museum.

It's always been my favorite museum since I was little. My parents used to take my brother and I downtown for a day at the museum, a picnic on the mall, and a ride on the carousel. It was super cheap, and of everything we did growing up it was always my favorite. To be able to do it with my daughter now is so amazing.

For those of you who don't know, Natural History is filled with dinosaur bones, an insect zoo, animal replicas from all parts of the world, prehistoric sea life, and everything else a two year old thinks is amazing.

oh and a giant squid which is ew

Also? A newerish exhibit, as in not there when I was a kid, is the butterfly pavilion. Its a dome filled with live butterflies flying all over the place uncaged. It's pretty awesome and my toddler adored it. It cost a little extra but the museum itself is free and you get to stay in there as long as you like. And again perfect for butterfly adoring toddlers.

and lots of tarantulas

And there is no escaping the carousel when your 2 year old doesn't miss a beat.

Daddy took the first shift and I rode the second round and then we headed back on the metro home.

It was the perfect day to spend downtown. Uncrowded and just enough of a winter chill in the air. It's days like today that make me love living here!

Looks like a blast! It's always fun when you can recreate childhood memories with your own child. :)
